Before Blade Runner, electronic soundtracks for science fiction movies painted the future as cold, sterile, emotionless, as hostile to humanity as Saturn’s liquid hydrogen surface and diamond rainstorms. Vangelis broke with these accumulated clichés, draping Blade Runner’s scenery with droopy pitch-bent synth tones of unexpected warmth and wetness.

This is where SPOILERS cryptically (sub)titled TASTTAFOTASTTSBF sets off: a beckoning at varispeed through miscellaneous shifting scenes, caught in flickering glimpses or panoramas creeping into sharper focus. Vivid adjoining worlds-in-themselves that fracture, freeze and re-frame time - coupling the unexpected and the inevitable.

We don’t know quite where or when we are with Spoilers score, which mingles past and future, electronic and acoustic, visceral and numb — It’s a vividly imagined tomorrow’s world - one that we cannot be sure of whether we’re already inhabiting it or not.

Henkel's slippery melodic gestures colour the evolving landscape, whilst Kosack switches seamlessly between stubborn thematic repetition and flashes of alien ornamentation. Hall and Reidy are locked in tug-of-war, pushing and pulling the band persistently but without promise of resolve.

Harsh cuts, sharp turns and relentless, longing slow-burns - the quartet manoeuvres restlessly from detailed textured intricacies to anthemic hooks over laid-back grooves, tugging you to mercilessly into condensed, punishing passages of reckless thrashing that dissipates instantly into sparse, whispering serenity, or a grounding riff-y cyclical vortex. Underpinning the dizzying whirlwind of weaves and ricochets, SPOILER is relentlessly propulsive, their daring jump cuts and steady, aching builds ready to shoot you off once again into anti-gravity space, a landscape of blooming, fleeting architectures.

TASTTAFOTASTTSBF is released via Average Negative Records as limited edition vinyl LP / all digital platforms.
